A Good Eye Beats Equipment Everytime

If you’ve followed my blog for long you know I have an affinity for tilt-shift photography. I love this video that Ryan Killackey and his wife put together from over 10,000 shots they took in California. What makes it even better is that Ryan created this all with basic equipment (Canon Rebel XS, 50mm, 18-55mm kit lens, 50-250mm). Proof that an artful eye trumps expensive equipment any day.

Back To The Basics

Are you new to DSLR photography/video or just looking to brush up on the basics? Then you’ll want to watch this trio of great videos from the uber-talented Vincent Laforet & Blake Whitman. You can view the other two videos on his blog.

I’m loving this mashup of Chasing Cars & Every Breath You Take from Party Ben. You can download this mix and quite a few others on his site.

Why Didn’t I Think Of That?

I don’t know about you, but I’m always misplacing my lens cap. That’s why I love this concept from Rhie Hyi Joong & Lee Sang Hwa. I hope they put it into production soon.

Just a little warm out today.

What a way to spend the afternoon.

My definition of a great afternoon. Red Sox spring training game with the family.

A Rare Find

Please watch the below video about Vivian Maier. If her name doesn’t sound familiar to you, don’t be surprised. Vivian was a nanny living quietly in Chicago for many years who liked to take pictures on her day off. No one really knew about her amazing talent until after she passed away and her work was accidentally discovered by John Maloof. You can see more of her work on John’s blog. The photos above were 2 of my favorites from the collection I have seen so far.

If Christmas Happened Now

Amazing retelling of the Christmas story in a modern and relevant, yet classy way. The Igniter team really outdid themselves with this one. The moving background music is by a group called Folk Angel.

America In Color

Fascinating set of photographs from the Denver Post are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression. They make the recession we’re currently experiencing not look quite so bad. Make sure to check out the whole set.

All photos are the property of the Library of Congress.
